It has been a very busy month indeed here at GHF with lots of eventing, show jumping, clinics and travelling!
We kicked off the month at Bicton Horse Trials in the blazing heat! Max McInerney posted a 29.3 double clear in the 5YO section to finish 2nd, we love “Big Tom”! Clooncalagy Knight (for sale) did a speedy 27 double clear in the BE100 to finish 2nd - his first event on British soil after making the journey over from Ireland just a month ago. Gen, our working pupil, and her horse Borris finished 7th in the Novice after a quick double clear in her section.
Next, we were off to Aston le Walls for Heartbeat to hopefully complete his final qualifying run in the Novice to allow him to compete at Hartpury CCI* next week… Much to our complete delight he was amazing from start to finish, giving his absolute all to every phase and really showing off his massive potential and presence. Vicky felt this was one of “Harvey’s” best performances to date and this shows that he is really consolidating his work at this level of eventing. He posted a 29 dressage and added 4 time in the XC to finish in 7th place. Gen went on to complete her first Intermediate with a clear XC! Aston was also a great event for past GHF horses… Emily King and Dargun won the Advanced U25, Dreamaway II, ridden by Tom McEwen won his first intermediate, EG MichealAngelo, ridden by Rose Nesbitt, completed his first Intermediate and Fernhill Playboy, ridden by Ella Woodhead, stormed a double clear around the intermediate also. These horses are all a credit to their new riders and we are so pleased to have sourced them and started their careers here at GHF!
Finally, we trucked our way all the way to Cholmondeley Castle… We were off on the road for 3am as we had a very early dressage time for Clooncalagy Knight to compete in his first Novice. “Knight” put in a fab performance to finish 2nd on his dressage score of 32. This will be such a fabulous horse for someone to carry on up the levels with. Harvey was also in the Novice and did a stunning test to score 18.5 and put him way in the lead! Unfortunately, despite Vicky and the team running around like headless chickens to make the times provided, they were just completely unachievable and when Harvey got over to do his show jumping, they had change the course to the 100. To say we were gutted is an understatement as we had tried our very best to go on our times which were not achievable on the day. Luckily, Gen went on to do another great clear XC in the Intermediate to finish 8th which meant we at least left the event on a slightly less bitter note!
We have also had a very, very interesting from Russell at Centaur Biomechanics! Chloe organised for Russell to run a clinic at our yard which took place on the 31st. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we are now all even more obsessed with riding in balance than we were before after the exercises suggested by Russell made such a difference. We would highly recommend Centaur Biomechanics and we will be booking in a jumping clinic with Russell in the immediate future!
GHF horses are making top appearances in the BE Points Leaderboards. Emily King and Dargun owned by Mrs Jane Del Missier are in the lead of the Britannia 3* League with 118 points (20 points clear of 2nd place), Bubby Upton and Cola III are 2nd in the Calver Wealth Management 2* League with 36 points (2 points behind the leaders). Vicky is also currently in 7th place in the Rider Foundation Points Leaderboard after successes with our 5 year olds this year.
Vicky and Andrew took a long trip over to Germany earlier on in the month to have a look at what horses are just over the crossing… They came home with a gorgeous mare, Ivian, from the Stal Hendrix Stud. She is just beautiful and can be seen on the “Our Horses” page.
That’s just a snippet of what has been going on here this month, with there actually being too much to write about in one post! Please check back and maybe there will be a mid month update for August since our calendar is not getting any quieter with the 4 year olds off to their first BE in a couple of weeks, Harvey off to Hartpury CCI* and Big Tom contesting the 5YO classes all with Osberton in mind!
