The first week of May saw three of our young horses at the Badminton BYEH classes. 4 yr old Kadans, 5 yr old Jarillo and 5 yr old Trend de la Cruise (owned by George Anderson, 9th place) all took in the atmosphere and behaved impeccably - showing off what lovely, attractive horses they are. It was then a quick turnaround at home for the big boys Heartbeat and Max McInerney to go all the way to Richmond Horse Trials. Heartbeat contested the Intermediate and posted an outstanding 25.5 dressage. He followed this up with a quick and classy double clear to take 4th place! Max McInerney also did a great test followed by a clear showjumping. He then decided to really show off his jump XC… Quite literally jumping Vicky off into the final water! Horses are fantastic grounders!
Andrew then enjoyed a well earned holiday in Kefalonia. Back at home, we were all very jealous of his sun selfies but had a busy training week. Vicky enjoyed lessons with Nick Burton and went XC schooling with all of the young horses, who were all very good. They have quickly realised how much fun XC is! Wishing Time arrived during this week, a new ride for Vicky as his rider has unfortunately sustained an injury. We will be competing him and keeping him fit for her.
Next up was one of our local events - Howick Horse Trials. Vicky took 2nd place on Max McInerney in the Novice, finishing on her dressage score of 27.8! Working pupil Anna did her first Novice on her young horse Rhode Island 19 here, putting in a solid performance for their first time at the level. Office Manager Chloe did her first event on new horse Dissington Miss Grainger here, going double clear to finish 8th in the BE100. The following day, Vicky took five horses to dressage at Mount Ballan! All of them were super and it was a very valuable outing for the young horses.
Another quick turn around for Vicky and Andrew as they went to Rockingham for Heartbeat and Max McInerney in the CCI2*-S. Both horses produced super dressage tests (27.6 and 27.1 respectively) and then went on to jump double clear! They were both placed inside the top 10 which was a great result with such large, competitive sections!
Next up was a quick trip to Broomes for some BSJA in the Wales and West Second Round Show. These shows are so good for the young horses education - all of them jumping super double clears in their classes. Anna and her horse jumped very well in the 6 yr old showcase and Lianne had a good round on her horse too.
Towards the end of the month, Anna and Andrew went to Pontispool for Rhode Island 19’s second Novice. The pair of them absolutely nailed it and took the win in their section, finishing on their dressage score of 28! Chloe went the next day to compete in the BE100 and came 4th with a 29.3 double clear.
You would think that sounds like a pretty busy month… But there is more! Gorgeous Heartbeat and Wishing Time went overseas to compete at Tattersalls International in the CCI2*-L. Both horses travelled over very well and settled into their stables. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all from start to finish. Harvey, at just 7 years old, was in the Young Horse section. He did a beautiful test, jumped a seriously cool clear XC around a big, tough track and came out on the final day perfectly, showing off what a fabulous jumper he is just tapping the last fence down. Wishing Time, owned by Rachel White, also did a lovely test and was good across country at all of the tricky combinations but did make a couple of mistakes on the course that we will learn from for next time. He jumped a lovely clear round on the final day. We are all so proud of the horses and the performances they gave. What a great end to the month to have two horses come home happy, healthy and sound at one of the bigger events of their careers so far.
Onto June we are not planning on taking any breathers! It is full steam ahead with another trip across the Irish Sea in the pipeline. Busy is best!
